CHRIST HOLLAND B.V., a member of the Christ Water Technology Group has been awarded the contract for the turn-key extension of the brackish water desalination plant in Gabes, Tunisia.
So.N.E.D.E. (Societe Nationale D’ Exploitation et de Distribution des Eaux), the Tunisian drinking water company, tendered internationally for extension of it’s largest drinking water production plant in august 2004.
The extension foresees in a fourth line of the existing water treatment plant, built in 1995 by CHRIST HOLLAND B.V. The extension consists of a filtered water pump, a Christ precoat® filtration unit, a safety cartridge filtration, dosing of acid and anti-scalant, a high pressure pump and a reverse osmosis unit with interstage boosterpump. Also the existing control system will be extended.
The original design capacity of the plant, 22.500 m3/d, was already raised to 25.000 m3/d. The extension is designed for an additional capacity of 7.500 m3/d with a maximum of 8.500 m3/d. The total capacity of the extended Gabes plant will amount to 32.500 m3/d with a maximum of 33.500 m3/d.
This particular plant supplied by CHRIST HOLLAND B.V. has been in operation without interruption 24hrs/d, 365 days a year since 1995, with the original Reverse Osmosis membranes, producing permeate well within the specified quality limits. Remarkably no chemical cleaning of the Reverse Osmosis membranes has taken place since 1997.
The very positive experience of So.N.E.D.E. with CHRIST HOLLAND B.V. has certainly helped Christ to obtain this important project under tough international competition.
